COLLEGE STATION, Texas– Texas A&M junior Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ont.) was named National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week by CollegeSwimming.com on Monday.
Wilkinson earned the honor based on her performances at the Big 12 Relays and in dual meets against Iowa State and Missouri on Oct. 19-20 in Ames, Iowa. The honor is the second of her career. She earned the award for the first time almost exactly one year ago, following A&M’s 174-135 dual meet win over Texas on Nov.
The Aggies recorded 177-104 and 158-116 wins over the Cyclones and Tigers, respectively, to start their dual meet season at 2-0 after sweeping the University of Texas in the swimming events at the Big 12 Relays a day earlier. Wilkinson did a number on the 200 individual medley field, winning in an NCAA consideration and pool record time (2:03.89), nearly three-and-a-half seconds ahead of the second place finisher. She also led a 1-2 A&M finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.18).
The Aggies will train for the next three weeks before closing their fall schedule by hosting the Art Adamson Invitational at the Student Rec Center in College Station on Nov. 16-18.
