Reimer, Cochrane shine at Team Aquatic Supplies B.C., Senior Championships

VANCOUVER – Brittany Reimer of Vancouver and Ryan Cochrane of Victoria were among the winners on Friday to open the Team Aquatic Supplies B.C., Senior Championships swimming competition.

For many of Canada’s top swimmers from Western Canada this is the last competitive opportunity before the CN Swimming Trials Olympic selection meet April 1-6 in Montreal.

Reimer, a two-time world championship medalist, won the gold in the women’s 400-metre freestyle in 4:12.73 with Tanya Hunks second in 4:13.09 and Savannah King third in 4:19.76.

All three medalists race for the host UBC Dolphins in Vancouver.

In the men’s 400 freestyle, Cochrane was the victor in 3:58.59 with Matt Pariselli of Vancouver second in 4:09.58 and Riley Pickerl of Victoria third in 4:11.10.

Other winners in men’s competition were Stefan Hirniak of Victoria in the 100 butterfly, Scott Dickens of Vancouver in the 100 breaststroke, Rick Say of Victoria in the 100 freestyle, Matt Hawes of Vancouver in the 200 backstroke and Brian Johns of Vancouver in the 200 individual medley.

Other winners in women’s competition were Mackenzie Downing of Victoria in the 100 butterfly, Annamay Pierse of Vancouver in the 200 breaststroke, Elizabeth Collins of Regina in the 100 freestyle, Kelly Stefanyshyn of Vancouver in the 200 backstroke and Hunks in the 200 IM.

Competition continues through to Sunday.
