Swimmers nominated for Sport B.C Awards

Brent Hayden and his Coach Tom Johnson, both of Vancouver, top the list of nominees for the 42nd Sport B.C Awards gala being held in Vancouver.

Hayden, who tied for the gold medal in the 100 metre freestyle at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne, is nominated for the Sport B.C. senior male athlete of the year award.

His Coach, Tom Johnson, who guided Hayden to world gold, is nominated for coach of the year.

Other nominees include Savannah King of Vancouver, who is up for the female junior athlete of the year for being a medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Brian Johns of Richmond, B.C is nominated as top University athlete, representing UBC, for his performances at the World University Games. In the disabled-athletes category, Stephanie Dixon of Victoria is nominated for being a multi-gold medalist at the 2007 Para Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Award winners are selected by a province wide panel of sports media and sports administrators. The winners will be announced March 5th at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver.
