Joel Greenshields named Male Sophomore Athlete of the Year

Arizona – Canadian Olympic Team member, Joel Greenshields named University of Arizona Male Sophomore Athlete of the Year. The award was presented at the annual C.A.T.S. (Commitment to an Athlete’s Total Success) Awards Banquet hosted by the University of Arizona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on Monday, April 14, 2008.

This annual awards dinner is presented by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and honored student-athletes that demonstrate not only outstanding athletic ability but who achieved a well-rounded and balanced collegiate career in academics and leadership.

When Joel is not at school in Arizona, he represents the University of Calgary Swim Club and swims under Coach Jan Bidrman. Joel was a member of the 2006 Pan Pacific Championship team that competed in Victoria, BC. In 2007, Joel represented Canada at the 2007 World Aquatic Championships where he finished 7th in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. Greenshields will be competing at his first Olympic Games this summer in Beijing, qualifying in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
