Victoria, BC – Canada’s Paralympic swim team is ready to take on the world at the Can-Am Open Swimming Championships in Victoria, BC, July 11-13, 2008. This will be the team’s final tune-up before the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.
World Record holders and 3-time Paralympians Stephanie Dixon of Victoria and Benoit Huot of Montréal are poised to compete against their rivals from the United States, Argentina, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal and Venezuela.
“We have a great mix of youth and veterans on our 21-member Paralympic team, “states Craig McCord, National Coach, Swimmer’s with a Disability. “This competition will be a great test for our swimmers, as they head into their final stages of preparation for the Paralympic Games.”
The competition will also feature 3-time Paralympian and World Record holder Donovan Tildesley of Vancouver, World Record holder Valérie Grand’Maison of Montréal and Canadian Record holder Brianna Nelson of Victoria. It will be their last opportunity for these swimmers to race against the best in the world, as they prepare for the Paralympic Games in September 2008.
The 2008 Canadian SWAD CAN-AM Open Swimming Championships will take place at Saanich Commonwealth Place from July 11-13, 2008. Preliminaries will start at 9:30 am and the finals at 4:30 pm each day.
