CALGARY – Craig Dagnall of Victoria and Nadine Williams of Edmonton won the men?s and women?s five kilometre open water races held on Lake Chaparral Monday morning to conclude the Age Group Nationals swimming competition.

In the men?s race, Dagnall clocked 54 minutes and 50 seconds less than 24 hours after winning the 800 freestyle race in the pool on Sunday evening.

Antoine David of Quebec was second in 55:21 and Bobby Harling of Penticton, B.C., third in 56:44.

The age group champions for the men were Dagnall in the 17-18 age group, Nicolas Tworek of Edmonton in the 16 age group, David in the 15 age group, Alec Page of Campbell River, B.C., in the 14 age group and Cameron Fowler of Calgary in the 13 and under age group.

Page also won three gold medals in the pool on the weekend.

In the women?s five kilometre, Nadine Williams of Edmonton was the overall winner in 58:34, Molly Groves of Edmonton was second in 58:35 and Lesley Stonebridge of Ottawa was third in 59:33.

Age group champions were Groves in the 16-18 age group, Williams in the 15 age group, Karyn Jewell of Vancouver in the 14 age group, Chelsea Shaul of Calgary in the 13 age group and Korali Dubois-Tiberghi of Trois-Rivieres, Que., in the 12 and under age group.

Canada?s top young swimmers are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the inaugural Tri Nations Cup at Universite Laval in Quebec City. The Canadians face entries from France and Britain.
