Québec – Federal and provincial government representatives announced yesterday during a press conference an investment of 85 million dollars towards the additions to the PEPS of Laval University in Quebec.

Both government parties will inject 37,5 millions dollars to the project. The city of Quebec has also committed to investing 10 million towards the project.

« This is a very important news for the region and for Laval University, » said Denis Brière, Dean of University Laval.

« This is « the » project that demonstrates that the University can integrate itself to the region and meet the needs of the population. The Super PEPS will take shape as of now. »

The Super PEPS project includes a new Olympic sized 10 lane, 50m x 25m pool with a depth of 3m, a gymnasium with 3500 seats, an indoor soccer-football field and new conditioning rooms.

« We are extremely happy of this announcement. The addition of a 50m pool at Laval University will open the possibility to host major swimming events such as nationals and the World University Games, » said Swimming Canada CEO/National Coach, Pierre Lafontaine. « Also the university program and the Rouge et Or will greatly benefit from it. The development of such a program is an integral part of the success of our national program. »

No official date has been announced for the construction of this new establishment.
