Vikes in 9th after round one at Western Washington Invitational
BELLINGHAM, Wash.(ISN) – The UVic Vikes women’s golf team continued their Thanksgiving weekend of tournaments competing in the 18th Annual Western Washington University Invitational at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club today. Following round one, Megan Woodland leads the Vikes after shooting 40-36 for a total of 76 and 4-over par.
Woodland currently sits tied for 12th place with Victoria Kondrak not far behind. Kondrak is tied for 21st after shooting a total 78 or 6-over par on the par-72 golf course. The Vikes are currently in 9th place overall with 30-over par 318 with hosts Western Washington in first place with 15-over par.
Tied for 31st is UVic’s Emily Nicol who shot 42-38 to sit at 8-over par while Cari Chow sits tied for 47th after shooting 44-40 in her first round leaving her at 12-over par. Pamela Desmarais is the fifth member of the Vikes women’s team and finished tied for 55th with 18-over par after round one.
Grand Canyon’s Chorpaka Jaengkit and Academy of Art’s Lyra Yoe lead round one after shooting an even par 72. Despite the leader board, Western Washington leads in the team standings and are the two-time defending champions, winning eight of the last nine years.
The final round of the WWU Invitational will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
