Giants Sneak By T-Birds

Kent WA – The Vancouver Giants defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Tuesday night at ShoWare Center in Kent.

Brendan Gallagher got the Giants on the board at 8:19 of the first period. Austin Vetterl and Luke Fenske had the assists.

The Giants outshot the T-Birds 16-2 in the first period.

Seattle (5-6-0-0) tied the game 1-1 at 4:51 of the second period on Justin Hickman’s second goal of the season. Jared Hauf put a shot on Vancouver goalie Adam Morrison from the bottom of the left circle. Morrison made the save but the puck rebounded to Hickman just on top of the crease. Hickman pounded the puck over Morrison’s glove for the tying goal.

Gallagher put the Giants back in front 2-1 when he scored at 12:15 of the second off assists from Cain Franson and Nathan Burns.

Vancouver (8-7-0-1) went in front 3-1 on a power-play goal by Gallagher at 14:04 of the second. Marek Tvrdon and James Henry had the assists.

Vancouver outshot Seattle 20-12 in the second period and led 36-14 in total shots after two periods.

The T-Birds cut the lead to one goal when Kyle Verdino scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 13:22 of the third period. Chance Lund sent the puck to Verdino just inside the blue line at center ice. Verdino put a slap shot on goal that beat Morrison high. Shea Theodore had the second assist on the goal.

Tvrdon added an empty-net goal at 19:59 of the third for Vancouver’s final goal. Gallagher had the only assist on the goal.

Vancouver outshot Seattle 50-23 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 46 of 49 shots and his record dropped to 5-6-0-0.

Morrison made 21 saves on 23 shots and his record is now 8-3-0-1.

Seattle now heads out on a six-game road trip to the Central Division. They play the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, November 4, at 6pm.
