Everett Silvertips – (ISN)
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Everett Silvertips fell behind early on Tuesday night at Medicine Hat Arena and couldn’t recover in a 10-2 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers. After suffering their second straight loss, the Silvertips will be right back in action Wednesday night as they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Ryan Harrison and Cody Fowlie scored goals for the Silvertips, who were within three going into the third period before the Tigers exploded for six third-period goals. That outburst set a franchise record for goals against in a period and tied the franchise mark for most goals against in a game for Everett.
Medicine Hat controlled play in the first period, outshooting the ‘Tips 19-5 and scoring three times. Cole Grbavac started the scoring with a rebound goal midway through the frame before James Bettauer notched a powerplay goal two minutes later to make it 2-0. The Tigers appeared to go up 3-0 when Grbavac knocked a puck out of the air and into the net, but the goal was reversed upon review. Austin Lotz then relieved Kent Simpson in goal for the Silvertips, but Medicine Hat did score a third time later in the period as Dylan Bredo put in a rebound to make it 3-0 after one.
Everett fared much better in the second frame, outshooting Medicine Hat 7-5 in first half of the period but falling behind 4-0 when Reid Petryk picked the top corner off the rush at 10:21. The Silvertips got on the board a short time later as Cody Fowlie drove the puck out front and dished it to Ryan Harrison, who finished off his fifth goal of the season against his old club to make it 4-1 through 40 minutes. The ‘Tips and Tigers each had 13 shots in the middle stanza.
Medicine Hat’s Hunter Shinkaruk then scored a third-period hat trick, while Boston Leier, Emerson Etem and Patrik Parkkonen all tacked on goals as things got out of hand in the Tigers’ blowout win. Cody Fowlie added a nice goal on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 8-2 at one point. There were also five fights and 96 total penalty minutes in the contest.
Austin Lotz (0-3-0-0) took the loss in goal after making 28 saves but being tagged for eight goals in relief. Kent Simpson had 14 saves in nearly 15 minutes before being replaced. Tyler Bunz (11-4-0-0) stopped 23 shots as the Tigers outshot the Silvertips 52-25. Everett finished 1 for 4 on the powerplay, while Medicine Hat scored on 3 of 8 opportunities.
