The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team is currently competing in the California State University’s San Marcos Fall Classic in Fallbrook, Calif. Following the first round on Nov. 7, the Vikes men are tied in third in the team stadings with Westminster College with a group score of 300. Third-year Vike James Holland (New Minas, N.S.) finished the day tied in fifth place overall after shooting an impressive par on the 72-hole golf course.
Holland, the current leader of the Vikes, was trailed closely by second year Edmonton native, Darren Hupfer, who finished round one shooting a two- over-par 74, and twin brother Sam Holland with a four-over-par 76. Also competing for the Vikes was Lee Haney, a third-year Claremont High School graduate, who shot a 78 and Kyle Blacquier (Fredericton, N.B), who shot a 79.
The hosts, Cal State San Marcos, are the current team leaders with a team score of 290 and are lead by Adam Loran shooting a first round two-under-par 70. Loran is second in individual standings behind Master’s College’s Thane Ringler, who finished the day with a 68.
The Vikes men will shoot their final round today, Nov. 8.
