Vikes finish fourth following day two in San Marcos Fall Classic

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team finished fourth in the California State University’s San Marcos Fall Classic in Fallbrook, Calif today. The team completed the 72-hole golf course with a combined score of 32-over-par 608 over two rounds, with second-year Edmonton native Darren Hupfer finishing fifth overall.



Following the first round on Nov. 7, the Vikes men finished third in the team standings, tied with Westminster College with a group score of 300. James Holland finished the day tied in fifth place overall after shooting an impressive par on the 72-hole golf course. Holland was trailed closely by Hupfer, who finished round one shooting a two- over-par 74, and twin brother Sam Holland with a four-over-par 76. Also competing for the Vikes was Cole Shaw, a fourth-year from Prince George, B.C., who shot a 78 and Kyle Blacquier (Fredericton, N.B), who shot a 79 in round one.

After the final round on Nov. 8, the fourth place Vikes were led by Hupfer, with an overall 3-over-par, and James Holland, who shot a total 7-over-par finishing in 12th place. Sam Holland finished the day with 9-over-par, tied for 15th, while Shaw finished 13-over-par and Blacquier finished 17-over-par.

The hosts, CSU-San Marcos, placed first with a team score of 19-over-par, while second place Redlands’ Jeremy Sanders finished first overall individually with a score three-under-par 141. Behind Sanders was Master’s College’s Thane Ringler who shot a par-144, to maintain his second place standing from round one.
