Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Royals welcome the Red Deer Rebels to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a two-game series starting this Saturday, November 12. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The doubleheader concludes Sunday when the teams face-off at 5:05 p.m.


One lucky fan will have the chance to win one of four 2012 Hyundai vehicles in the “Score a Hyundai with Victoria Hyundai” contest being held during the second intermission of Saturday night’s game. Fans can enter the contest by filling out a ballot available on the concourse of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

A Chuck-A-Puck contest will be held in support of the Sooke Minor Hockey Association as well a 50/50 draw, with proceeds going towards the Victoria Racquet Club Minor Hockey Association.


Marty the Marmot celebrates his sixth birthday this Sunday along with a dozen of his mascot friends! To kick off the party, the first 2,500 fans to arrive will receive a Marty the Marmot Bobblehead courtesy of Coca-Cola.

Fans will be able to sign Marty’s birthday card at Gate 1 prior to the game, while Marty and friends will be handing out kids’ goodie bags to all those young fans coming to join the party!

The first intermission will see Marty presented with his birthday cake courtesy of Cupcakes at Uptown. Fans will then be invited to join anthem singer Carmyn Wright as she sings Happy Birthday to Marty.

A special cheque presentation will also take place during the first intermission of Sunday night’s game to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation. Over the past year, one dollar from every sale of Marty the Marmot stuffed animals has been collected and will be donated to the foundation to help save Canada’s most endangered species from extinction.

After the game, fans are invited to join Marty and the Royals’ players for a skate on the ice at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Those wishing to participate will be able to re-enter the building following the game with their skates and safety equipment. Alternatively, skates and safety equipment may be rented from the City of Victoria kiosk in the concourse near Gate 3 by donation.

Sunday evening will also see the Victoria Royals and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) mark World Diabetes Day by lighting the ice blue prior to the game. World Diabetes Day (WDD) is an official United Nations World Health Day, annually celebrated on November 14. This date marks the birthday of Canadian Sir Frederick Banting, who along with Charles Best, is credited with the discovery of insulin in 1921.

A 50/50 draw with an additional $1,200 from a previously unclaimed prize will also be held, with proceeds going towards the Juan De Fuca Minor Hockey Association. A Chuck-A-Puck contest will also be carried out, benefitting the Peninsula Minor Hockey Association.
