The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 2-1 in a shootout on Friday night at Prospera Place in front on an energetic crowd of 6,184.

Zach Franko scored the winning goal in the shootout while Myles Bell and Shane McCoglan also scored in the shootout for the Rockets while Jordon Cooke stopped six of eight shots in the shootout in the Kelowna net.

The win improved the Rockets record to 6-11-1-1 as they get set to head out for three straight road games.

The team’s exchanged goals in the first period with Edmonton’s Kristians Pells opening the scoring with a shot from the slot that beat Kelowna starter Cooke.

The Rockets would answer back later in the period when Colton Sissons scored his ninth of the season on a nice wrist shot from the high slot. Tyson Baillie drew the lone assist on the marker.

Both goalies were tested throughout the game but kept the shooters at bay. Cooke was named the first star while Laurent Brossoit had a good night in net for the Oil Kings.

The Rockets are right back in action Saturday night as they will head to Vancouver to meet the Giants at Pacific Coliseum in the first of three straight games on the road. Next weekend Kelowna is in Prince George for two games before they return home on Nov. 23 to play the Cougars at Prospera Place.
