EVERETT, WA – Everett Silvertips Vice President/General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Saturday that the club has acquired 19-year-old forward Teal Burns from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2013 WHL Draft.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Burns is currently in his second full season in the WHL. He played ten games with Vancouver this season before being acquired by Prince Albert in a four-player trade on October 17. Burns then posted four assists in six appearances with the Raiders. In 16 total games between the two clubs this year, he has eight assists and eight penalty minutes.
Burns was originally selected by Portland in the eighth round (#156 overall) of the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft. The 5-11, 194-pound centerman played 35 games for the Winterhawks before being traded to Vancouver last December as part of the deal that sent Craig Cunningham to Portland. He totaled 20 points (4g/16a), 54 penalty minutes and a +3 rating in 62 games for the Winterhawks and Giants in 2010-11.
“We were looking to add another forward with WHL experience to our team,” said Soetaert. “We think Teal is the right kind of player to bring us that experience and look forward to seeing him in action as a Silvertip.”
The Silvertips are back on home ice tonight against Prince George at Comcast Arena, where they will finish off this weekend’s back-to-back set with the Cougars at 7:05 pm.
