Marek Tvrdon scored 56 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Giants a 3-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets. The Giants never led in this game until the overtime winner, but it was good enough to earn them their 12th win of the season and improve to 9-1-0-1 on home ice.

Both teams spent the first 20 minutes feeling each other out. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, but the Rockets did outshoot the Giants 8-5.

Kelowna didn’t waste anytime getting on the board in the 2nd period as Brett Bulmer beat Adam Morrison 16 seconds into the period during 4-on-4 action to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead. Just past the midway point of the period Brendan Gallagher potted his team leading 17th goal of the season on the power play, converting a pretty feed from Jordan Martinook to tie things up. James Henry also picked up a helper. 1-1 was the score through 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Giants got an early power play, but after a turnover at the Rockets line, Colton Sissons took it the other way and beat Morrison for a shorthanded goal and more importantly a 2-1 lead for the visitors. The Giants though didn’t waste anytime getting the equalizer; still on the power play 27 seconds later, Neil Manning banged home his 1st goal of the season to tie things up at 2-2. That is how things stood after 60 minutes.

For the third time this season, the Giants needed extra time and Marek Tvrdon would play hero beating Jordon Cooke on a nice individual effort for his 10th goal of the season, giving Vancouver a 3-2 overtime victory. Adam Morrsion made 23 saves for his 11th win of the season. The Giants finished 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Rockets went 0-for-4.

The Giants are back in action tomorrow night when they play host to the Prince George Cougars at 5:00 pm at the Pacific Coliseum. The pregame show begins at 4:30 pm on AM 650.
