Lethbridge, AB—A weekend trip to Alberta was not what the doctor ordered for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team. Going into this weekend (Nov 11-12), the WolfPack were unbeaten in Canada West play.  But after trips to Calgary last night (Friday) and Lethbridge tonight (Saturday), the ‘Pack find themselves at 2 and 2 on the year. The home town University of Lethbridge Pronghorns downed the WolfPack 63-61.

The teams were tied at 19 after the first quarter and TRU led 34-33 at the half. The teams were again tied after three quarters at 44 before the Pronghorns outscored the’Pack 19-17 in the final quarter to pull off the victory. Katlyn Olson scored a three point shot with three seconds left in regulation time to get Lethbridge the victory. Diane Schuetze (4th year, post, Vernon, BC) had the chance to tie things up for TRU with a last second jumper, but it was blocked at the buzzer.

Jen Ju (4th year, guard, Vancouver, BC) led the way on offense for TRU with 16 points. Schuetze had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Michelle Dimond (5 th year, forward, Port Moody, BC) had 12 points as well for the WolfPack.

Lethbridge got 15 points from Olson. Kim Veldman had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The game marked the only time the Colonna sisters of Invermere, BC would meet head to head in Canada West regular season play. Kailey (5thyear) of TRU had six points and six rebounds. Her younger sister Kassie of Lethbridge had four points.

The WolfPack continue their four game roadswing next weekend (Nov 18 and 19) as they head west into Victoria for a two game set with the Vikes.

Next home game for TRU is Friday November 25 th at the Tournament Capital Centre when the Brandon University Bobcats pay a visit.
