Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate rookie Greg Chase on being named one of 22 players that will represent Team Pacific at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, December 29, 2011 – January 4, 2012 in Windsor, Ontario.

Team Pacific is comprised of 11 players from British Columbia and 11 players from Alberta. Each province held a provincial camp over the summer to identify a set number of players to evaluate during the first part of the club team season.

The 6’0″, 182 lbs. center, with three assists and a plus/minus rating of +3 in 16 games played, is the only Hitmen on the 23-player roster eligible to compete in the tournament.

“I had a pretty good camp in the summer so I was confident coming into the season knowing that if I had a good start, I’d have a good chance of making it,” commented Chase. “I am really happy to be part of the team and look forward to bringing back a gold medal.”

“Greg has had significant development since we drafted him in 2010 and it is a nice reward for him to make Team Pacific,” said Calgary Hitmen General Manager, Executive VP and Alternate Governor Kelly Kisio. “His commitment and work ethic have certainly helped him contribute to the Calgary Hitmen and created this opportunity.”

The 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will bring together the top players in the world born in 1995 or later. The tournament is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada – Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut), and five International teams – Germany, Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic and the United States.

Three current Calgary Hitmen, Chase Clayton, Keaton Lubin and Rob Trzonkowski, represented Team Pacific at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba one year ago. The 2011 team finished third winning the bronze medal.

Chase and the Hitmen wrap up a four-game home stand when they host the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
