Braves Push Win Streak to Five With 4-0 Shut-Out of Campbell River

Captain Ty Jones had three assists to lead the Saanich Braves to a 4-0 shut-out of Campbell River last Wednesday at Pearkes Arena.

November 16, 2011, Saanich, BC – Tanner McGaw stopped all 26 shots he faced, Captain Ty Jones had three assists and four different Braves hit the net to lead the Saanich Braves to a 4-0 shut-out of the Campbell River Storm Wednesday night in VIJHL action at Pearkes Arena in Saanich.

The win gives the Braves their fifth win in a row and vaults them into second place in the South Division and third place overall in the VIJHL standings.

The Braves used a tenacious forecheck to keep the Storm hemmed in their end for much of the game and scored three of their four goals on the powerplay, making the Storm pay for their mistakes.

Connor Krupa got things started with 12:11 remaining in the first period as he banged home his 10th goal of the season on the powerplay.  This was followed five minutes later by another powerplay goal by Jack Palmer, the VIJHL Player of the Week.

After a scoreless second period that saw both teams have their chances, the Braves Josh McGladery balsted a shot from the point that found its way past Storm netminder Nick Babich with 16:40 remaining in the third period.

Saanich’s Ty Jones would notch three assists Wednesday night to lead the Braves to a 4-0 win over the Storm.

The Braves would add to the lead with just under five minutes remaining, as Sam Johnston would bang home his fourth goal of the year, again on the powerplay.

The game was typical of a Campbell River – Saanich match up, as both teams were assessed over 130 minutes in penalties, with 79 of those racked up by the Storm.

The three stars for the game were Connor Krupa (3rd), Tanner McGaw (2nd) and Ty Jones, with his three assists, named first star.

The Braves are next in action Friday evening when they head to Sidney to face the Peninsula Panthers at Panorama Recreation Centre.
