National Bronze for VIU Mariner Soccer

The VIU Men’s Soccer team won the CCAA National bronze medal in Quebec this past weekend!!

They beat F-X Garneau from Quebec 3-1….. In snowy conditions.

Goals by Jared Stephens (2) and Chris Arnett.

In earlier rounds VIU lost a heartbreaker in their opening game vs Holland College Hurricanes (Charlottetown, PEI) 2-1 after dominating play and leading 1-0 for most of the game.

After a day off the VIU Mariners bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Cavaliers – Champlain-St-Lambert (Quebec) , two goals from Stephen Ewashko and one from Ben Leggett, Ben was named player of the game. This win earned them a spot in the bronze medal game.

At the CCAA All-Canadian Banquet held at the start of the National Championships on November 8th, Bill Merriman Head Coach of the VIU Mariner Men’s soccer team was named National Coach of the year !! (see photo Bill on left) The Mariners went undefeated this year in league play and won the provincials for the second consecutive year.

Jared Stephens (MVP at provincials) received an All-Canadian award …the most prestigious individual award in the CCAA.
