Kiefer Giroux posted his second shutout of the season as the Victoria Cougars beat the Campbell River Storm 3-0 on Friday night.

Victoria improved to 17-3-1 with the win.

Giroux, who turned aside 17 shots, won his league leading tenth game. The 17-year-old, Qualicum Beach, BC native also leads all goaltenders in both goals against average (1.86) and save percentage (.925).

It did not take long for the Cougars to get on the board. At 1:15, Anthony Bonner fired a rocket from the point that whistled over the glove of Nick Babich and into the top corner of the net.

Babich had a busy night; facing 20 shots in the first period, eight in the second, and another 20 in the final frame.

The Cougars, which went 1-for-5 on the powerplay, doubled their lead after Brody Coulter one-timed a Steve Axford cross ice pass at 8:12. Riley Ross-Nelson was in the penalty box at the time of the goal.

For Axford, that assist extended his point streak to 16 games.

The score remained 2-0 until an empty net goal from Ben Kinshella with 72 seconds remaining in regulation sealed the deal.

Chris Bannister recorded two assists while Connor Stephens, Robert Zadra, and Mark Walton each chipped in with singles.

Victoria called up forward William McNamara to fill in for some holes left behind by the injury bug.

After beating the North Island Division leading Comox Valley Glacier Kings three times in as many games, the Storm is 1-3-0 in its last four games and is now 7-14-0 overall.

Next game for the Cougars is Thursday, November 24 against the Kerry Park Islanders. Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:15 p.m.
