Kamloops – The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-2 Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Kamloops (16-7-1-0) took a 1-0 lead at 17:05 of the first period on an unassisted goal from Tim Bozun.
The Blazers outshot the T-Bird 19-3 in the first period.
The Blazers went in front 2-0 at 2:03 of the second period on Brendan Ranford’s 13th goal of the season. Brady Gaudet had the only assist on the goal.
Seattle (10-12-0-1) cut the Blazers lead to one goal when Luke Lockhart scored a power-play goal at 2:47 of the second. Shea Theodore put a slap shot on goal with Lockhart standing in front of Kamloops goalie Cole Cheveldave. Lockhart tipped Theodore’s shot over Cheveldave’s right should for his fourth goal of the year.
Cole Ully extended the Blazers lead to 3-1 at 9:21 of the second with his third goal of the year. Ranford and Marek Hrbas had the assists.
Logan McVeigh scored an unassisted goal at 11:07 of the second to give Kamloops a 4-1 lead after two periods.
Kamloops led in shots, 33-13, after two periods.
Dylan Willick made it a 5-1 Kamloops lead when he scored a power-play goal at 3:45 of third period. McVeigh and Matt Needham had the assists on the goal.
Colin Smith scored at 5:25 of third to give the Blazers a 6-1 lead. Austin Madaisky and Gaudet were credited with the assists.
Burke Gallimore scored at 6:05 of the third to get the T-Birds second goal of the game. Gallimore beat Cheveldave with a wrist shot from the top of the slot with Lockhart screening the goalie. Brad Deagle had the only assist on the goal.
The Blazers scored 51 seconds after the T-Birds second goal to make it a 7-2 lead. Ryan Haines scored off an assist from Brock Balson.
Madaisky added a power-play goal at 18:51 of the third for the Blazers final goal of the game. Gaudet and McVeigh had the assists.
Seattle goalie Daniel Cotton made 42 saves on 50 shots and his record fell to 0-3-0-0.
Cheveldave improved his record to 9-3-1-0 by stopping 17 of 19 shots.
The T-Birds face the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center.
