Charles La Vertu

Former Island Sports News Editor and Publisher Charles La Vertu of CASK Shiai Karate in Victoria has been elected president of Karate BC.

He replaces Robert Walker of West Shore Kimura Shukokai in Colwood.

Sensei La Vertu is a sixth degree black belt and president of the Wado Karate Association of Canada.

Also elected to the board at the weekend Annual General Meeting were first vice-president Kurt Nordli of Shima Karate in Nanaimo, secretary Brendan Flower of Victoria Renshican Karate in Saanich, treasurer Ken Corrigan of Prince George, Andreas Kuntze of Vancouver Shito-Ryu Saiko-Kai and Rick Penner of Tsuruoka Karate Club and Noreen Yoemans of Jushinkan Martial Arts, both of Kelowna.

Also on the board are second vice-president Jason Farquharson of Northern Rockies Karate-do in Hudsons Hope and member at large Donna Gardecki of West Coast Gojukai Karate in Maple Ridge.

Karate BC is recognized as the sport governing body for karate in BC.
