Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen together with Canada Safeway Ltd. are wrapping up Movember, a month to fight prostate cancer.

During November Hitmen players, coaches and staff along with Calgary minor hockey coaches grew moustaches to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Canada.

Currently the Hitmen Movember team sits first amongst CHL teams with a total of $13,822 raised. The Flames Foundation for Life will match the Calgary Hitmen’s Movember fundraising efforts to result in a total of over $27,000 directed to Prostate Cancer Canada.

The Hitmen will continue to collect funds until the end of the week. Fans wishing to support the cause can visit movember.com and search Calgary Hitmen to make a last minute donation.

“I am very proud of our players, fans and community for their exceptional contributions and commitment to the Hitmen Movember campaign,” said Mike Moore, Calgary Hitmen Director of Business Operations. “The growth of the program gets stronger each year providing the necessary funds and exposure for the fight against prostate cancer.”

The funds raised in Canada through Movember support programs run directly by Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada. Together, the two channels work to ensure that Movember funds support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs.

“Canada Safeway is a long standing partner of Prostate Cancer Canada and it was a natural fit for us to participate in the Calgary Hitmen Movember event,” said Chuck Mulvenna, President and Chief Operating Officer of Canada Safeway Ltd.

Over the month, fans also participated in the inaugural Hitmen Mo Bro challenge by casting votes for six Mo Bro candidates at www.hitmenhockey.com. After the polls closed, Spencer Humphries became the first Mo Bro inducted into the Hitmen Mo of Fame.

“It’s a huge honour to be first Mo Bro,” said Humphries. “The entire team got behind Movember and we’d like to thank all the fans for supporting our campaign.”

Calgary hosts the Spokane Chiefs on Friday, Dec. 2 for the Canada Safeway Movember game. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.
