The Junior “A” Shamrocks are pleased to announce the appointment of Larry Smeltzer to the position of Head Coach.

Larry has been on the support staff of both the Junior and Senior Shamrocks the past few years, and brings a vast array of experiences to his new position.

Larry is a member of both the Canadian and the Ontario Lacrosse Halls of Fame. In his last coaching position he was the “Coach of the Year” in the OLA Senior A League. Larry has won two Mann Cups, an NLL championship, a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal and a Sr. B Championship.

Ron McQuarrie will be the Assistant Coach with Nirmal Dillon, Rod Bannister and Matt Flindell rounding out the staff so far, Larry is still working on a position or two.

Nirmal and Rod are also members of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Ron is the Vice President of Performance Programs with the BCLA and along with Rod, led the Intermediate A Shamrocks to the Provincial Title in 2010. Nirmal, a Victoria product, is also a member of the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame. He played on a Minto Cup-winning Victoria JR Shamrocks Team, and Coached that last Minto Cup-winning Victoria Team. He also coached the SR Rocks to 2 Mann Cup victories. Rod was the most valuable player in the 1977 Minto Cup with the champion Burnaby Cablevision team in the first of 3 consecutive wins. Rod also played on 3 Mann Cup winning Teams and was an Assistant Coach with the JR Rocks in the past.

Matt is currently a Goaltender with the SR Shamrocks and will bring his experience in the 2008 Minto Cup to the players, as we move towards our goal of again being at the Minto Cup Tournament this year in Whitby Ontario.
