Nanaimo, BC – The second weekend of Operation Red Nose was Great! Rudy and the 65 Operation Red Nose volunteers drove a total of 2867 km to deliver more than 200 people safely to their destination on December 2nd and 3rd. Along with our long time regulars, employees from Columbia Fuels were among the enthusiastic volunteers this past weekend. Residents from Lantzville to Ladysmith are encouraged to sign up as volunteers as soon as possible. Just call 250-755-6969 or visit your local RCMP detachment to sign up. It is not too late to become ‘Rudy’s little helpers’.”

Rudy was out and about in the community this past weekend as well visiting our many Pub Sponsors.

This weekend sees two more groups stepping up to and volunteering their time as teams. Friday December 9th is Coastal Community Credit Union’s Operation Red Nose night and December 10th sees the staff from the City of Nanaimo Parks and Recreation department. Not only does this offer these groups a fun team-building opportunity it supports the community by providing a much needed service and making our streets safer during this festive time of year. The service is completely confidential and free! However, smiles, and donations are always welcome.

PacificSport General Manager Drew Cooper sums up Operation Red Nose the best when he states: “Red Nose is a win-win program in the community. It creates safer streets by providing an alternative to drinking and driving during the holiday season and proceeds support local athletes and youth to develop healthy lifestyles.

Founded in Quebec City in 1984, Operation Red Nose is a program dedicated towards preventing impaired driving. Hosted by PacificSport in Nanaimo, Operation Red Nose is currently in its 16th year of successful service. Last year Nanaimo’s Operation Red Nose volunteers safely delivered over 1500 people safely to their destinations. In turn, this brings to light the popularity and importance of services such as Operation Red Nose, particularly when holiday celebrations are at their height of the season.

The Operation Red Nose designated driver service is provided during the holidays to individuals who do not feel fit to drive for whatever reason. It is a confidential, safe, and effective way of getting you, your passengers and your car home at the end of the night by allowing a team of volunteers to do the driving for you. Dates of service are November 25th and 26th, December 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd, 30th and New Year’s Eve. Call the Operation Red Nose Hotline 250-755-6969 for your ride home between 9:00pm and 3:00am.
