The Kelowna Rockets suffered a 4-3 shootout loss at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night as they kicked off a six game Western Hockey League road trip.

Zach Franko, MacKenzie Johnston and Brett Bulmer scored for Kelowna, who led 3-1 after two periods but couldn’t hang on for the win.

The Broncos scored two third period markers to tie the game before winning it in the shootout after six shooters. Rockets goalie Adam Brown faced 38 shots in the game, including 18 in the third period. He also stopped four out of six shooters in the shootout. Franko was the lone Rocket out of six shooters to score.

Taylor Vause scored two third period goals for Swift Current while Josh Derko had the other.

Kelowna picks up a point for the shootout loss with its record moving to 12-14-2-2.

The Rockets now moves on to play Moose Jaw on Saturday night as the team’s road trip continues.
