Brandon, MB. — Members of the Wheat Kings will be boarding the Precision Toyota Tundra Community Cruiser Wednesday night and heading off to Oak Lake for another Minor Hockey Caravan.

Veterans Jens Meilleur, Brodie Melnychuk and rookie Dakota Conroy will be skating with members of Oak Lake’s minor hockey program, signing autographs and distributing tickets to an upcoming Western Hockey League game compliments of Canadian Tire and Rogers.

On Thursday, the Wheat Kings will be visiting the children’s floor at the Brandon Regional Health Centre followed by a School Patrol Luncheon at St. Augustine’s School.

In addition to delivering stuffed animals to the Brandon RHC, the players will enjoy a Subway lunch with members of the St. Augustine’s School Patrol Unit that was recently named “School Patrol Unit of the Month” by the Brandon Police Service.

Besides having lunch with the school patrollers, the Wheat Kings will be awarding tickets to the members thanks to the generous support of both Manitoba Public Insurance and The Brandon Sun.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings practiced Wednesday afternoon in preparation for their final pre-Christmas game, scheduled for Friday night at Westman Place against the visiting Kamloops Blazers. The Wheat Kings, who will be without captain Mark Stone for the third straight game, are coming off Tuesday night’s 5-3 victory over the Kelowna Rockets. Stone was named to Canada’s National Junior Team earlier today in Calgary.

Friday night is Calendar Poster Giveaway Night at Westman Place, with all fans in attendance to receive a full color Wheat Kings’ 2012 Calendar, presented by The Brandon Sun and McDonalds. A 20-year old native of Balgonie, Saskatchewan, Melnychuk will be playing in his 282nd career WHL game on Friday. That will move the 5-year WHL veteran to within four games of Kelly Smart and tenth place on the club’s all time list for Games Played.

Tickets to Friday’s game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
