The Vancouver Giants scored 3 goals in the third period to defeat the Prince George Cougars 3-2. Adam Morrison earned his league leading 20th victory in net and Cain Franson led the way offensively with 3 points as the Giants picked up win number 21 of the year.
The Cougars opened the scoring just under four minutes into the first period. Alex Forsberg’s shot deflected past Adam Morrison to give the home side a 1-0 lead despite the Giants outshooting them 7-4 in the first period.
There was no scoring in the second period, but it wasn’t as if the Giants didn’t have any chances. With 3 power play opportunities, the Giants peppered Drew Owsley with 14 shots, but Vancouver was unable to beat him. The game remained 1-0 for the Cougars through 40 minutes.
The Giants came out flying in the third period and were rewarded as Cain Franson took a great feed from Neil Manning and made no mistake on the breakaway, scoring his 12th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Less then 2 minutes later Taylor Makin potted his 7th goal of the year against his former team to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. However, just 19 seconds later Alex Forsberg scored his 2nd of the night to tie the game at 2-2. The Giants though would not be fazed as they continued their relentless forecheck, forcing a turnover and Jackson Houck found the back of the net for his 4th goal of the season to give Vancouver a 3-2 lead. Adam Morrison would shut the door the rest of the way to help the Giants pick up their 21st win of the season. Morrison made 19 saves for his league leading 20th win in net.
The Giants will wrap up the first half of the season tomorrow night right back at the CN Centre vs. Prince George. Game time is 7:00 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
