The Vancouver Giants pulled off the weekend sweep of Prince George, defeating the Cougars 3-1 Saturday night at the CN Centre in Prince George. Cain Franson led the way with 2 goals to give him 10 points in 6 games this season vs. the Cougars.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening period as Vancouver outshot Prince George 7-6. Adam Morrison made a couple of key saves early to keep it scoreless through 20 minutes.
Coming off a 3 point game on Friday night, Cain Franson kept it going Saturday night opening the scoring in the second period with his 13th goal of the season. He would add another on the power play to give the Giants a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.
After managing just 12 shots in the first two periods, the Cougars were firing everything at the net in the third period. Morrison came up large time and time again, saving his biggest stop of the night for a Jesse Forsberg breakaway. The Cougars would eventually solve the Giants netminder on a late power play to cut the lead to 2-1 with 4:34 remaining. Austin Vetterl would add an empty netter to seal the deal and give the Giants a 3-1 victory, their 22nd of the season. Morrison made 22 saves for his league leading 21st win of the year.
The Giants now have a week off for the Christmas break and will return to action December 27 at home for the front end of a home and home series vs. the Kamloops Blazers. Game time is 7:00 pm at the Pacific Coliseum. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
