The Blazers lost their second game in a row as the Prince Albert Raiders played a strong game in a 5-2 victory. The Raiders scored the lone goal of the first period for a 1-0 lead. The Blazers and Raiders traded goals in the second period as Tim Bozon and Brendan Ranford each scored for the Blazers. The Raiders held a 3-2 advantage heading into the third period. The next goal was important, and the Raiders got it to make it a 4-2 lead. The Blazers had chances, but failed to score giving up an empty net goal in a 5-2 road loss. Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 at Saskatoon Blades – 6-3 Win

The Blazers bounced back after two consecutive losses and won 6-3 in Saskatoon. It was the Blazers first win in the Bridge City since 1998. The Blades took a 2-1 lead after the first period as Tim Bozon scored a power play marker for the Blazers. The Blazers opened the game up in the second period as Bronson Maschmeyer, Logan McVeigh, Aspen Sterzer and Ryan Hanes tallied and the Blazers took a 5-3 lead into the third period. Sterzer scored the lone goal in the third period and the Blazers cruised to a 6-3 win. The line of Sterzer, Hanes and Chase Souto were a combined +7 and had 6 points in the game. Cole Cheveldave had the win with 26 saves while Andrey Makarov was in for all six goals against making 32 saves. Full Recap and Highlights.

Friday, December 16th, 2011 at Brandon Wheat Kings – 3-2 Win

It was in and out of Brandon with a win as the Blazers took down the Wheat Kings 3-2 on Friday night. JC Lipon opened the scoring for the Blazers as a missed point shot ended up on his stick and he scored his 13th goal of the season. Michael Ferland replied for the Wheat Kings finding a rebound to make it 1-1 through the first period. The Blazers took the lead again in the second period when Brendan Ranford scored on a partial break to make it 2-1 for the Blazers. The Wheat Kings tied it before the period was out on the power play to make it 2-2 going to the third period. Colin Smith won the game for the Blazers shorthanded early in the third period as the Blazers won 3-2. Cole Cheveldave made 29 saves, while Brandon Anderson stopped 36 shots for the Wheat Kings. Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at Moose Jaw Warriors – 4-3 Shootout Loss

The Blazers finished off their 6-game road trip with a strong game, but a 4-3 shootout loss. Colin Smith opened the scoring and Austin Madaisky followed it up with a goal early in the second period as the Blazers were in full control. Penalty trouble allowed the Warriors to strike twice on the power play to tie the game up at 2-2. Another penalty in the third period allowed the Warriors to score another goal to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Solid work by Ryan Hanes, Aspen Sterzer and Chase Souto tied the game up with Souto getting credit to send the game to overtime. The Blazers were able to kill off another penalty in overtime, but the Warriors got the best of the Blazers in the shootout. Cole Cheveldave made 26 saves for the Blazers, while Spencer Tremblay stopped 43 pucks and was the game’s first star for the Warriors. Full Recap and Highlights.

Blazers Ranked 7th in BMO MasterCard CHL Top 10

The Kamloops Blazers continue to be in the CHL Top 10 rankings. This is the fourth time the Blazers have been ranked in the CHL Top 10 this season. Blazers Lead the B.C. Division, 2nd Overall in the WHL

The Kamloops Blazers finished the week with a 2-1-0-1 record and hold a four point lead over the Vancouver Giants for first place in the B.C. Division. The Blazers finished a 6-game East Division road trip with a 3-2-0-1 record. Overall, the Blazers are 12-4-1-1 on the road which is tied for the best winning percentage in the WHL. Overall, the Blazers have a 24-9-1-1 record this season which is good for a .714 winning percentage, second in the WHL. The Blazers are 18-3-1-0 against Western Conference opponents this season. 32 of the Blazers final 37 games will be against Western Conference opponents.

Blazers Extend Head Coach, Guy Charron’s Contract

The Kamloops Blazers are off to their best start since the 1998-99 WHL season and are in first place in the B.C. Division and second overall in the WHL. The hockey club awarded Head Coach, Guy Charron with a contract extension through the 2012-13 hockey season. For full details, follow this link.

A Return to Action Next Week

The Kamloops Blazers have a deserved Christmas break off this week. The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday, December 27th in Vancouver to face the Giants. The Blazers will then return home for three straight home games. The hockey club will host the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday, December 28th, the Calgary Hitmen on Friday, December 30th, and the Prince George Cougars on Sunday, December 31st.

International Flavour

The Kamloops Blazers will be missing two players over the Christmas break. The hockey club will be without 16-year-old Matt Needham who will be competing with Team Pacific at the U-17 World Challenge. Needham has had a good first half of the season with 7 goals, 11 assists and 18 points in 29 games this season.

The hockey club has also been without defenseman Marek Hrbas. Hrbas is in Okotoks, AB trying to crack the Czech Republic World Junior roster. The 18-year-old has 14 assists in 34 games with the Blazers this season. The World Junior Championships will be held in Calgary and Edmonton from December 26th – January 5th.

Kamloops Blazers Christmas Store Hours

The Kamloops Blazers Store will have special hours for the Christmas break. The store will be open this week from December 19th – 22nd from 12:00pm – 4:00pm.
