(Victoria, BC) Runners participating in the 2012 Frontrunners Island Race Series will have added incentives to achieve their goals over the eight-race series. Two new initiatives will be introduced – the Milers Club and the Green Jersey – the first of which will reward those runners who have completed milestones, and the second for the fastest sprinter in each race.
The Frontrunners Milers Club will reward runners with an exclusive custom designed shirt as they reach mileage milestones attained during the Race Series. The program will take into account the last five years of the Series, and reward runners as they reach the 500km, 1000km and 1500km milestones. Mileage will be tracked on www.racedaytiming.ca starting in the early spring of 2012.
The second program is the Frontrunners Green Jersey which will be awarded to the fastest male and female sprinter over the last 100m for both the under 40 and over 40 age categories. The Green Jersey winner from each race will be brought up on stage with the overall winner of each race and recognized. The Frontrunners Yellow Jersey will be awarded to the overall male and female winner of each event in recognition of them attaining a victory in these highly competitive events.
“The new programs are designed to engage the participants while allowing them to challenge themselves to achieve new goals,” says Mark Nelson, Owner Frontrunners Westshore. “We have been the title sponsor of the Island Race Series for the past six years and wanted to do something innovative and exciting this season to continue building the Island Race Series up as the best of its type in Canada!”
“The Vancouver Island Runners’ Association is very excited about the new initiatives this year. We are very appreciative of all our sponsors for supporting the local clubs that put on the races, and welcome runners of all abilities to sign up,” says Cathy Noel, President of VIRA. “As a result of the commitment from our Gold Sponsors this year – Dairyland, PISE – Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence, BMO Financial Group and RE/MAX as well as Frontrunners and Adidas, we are also going to be timing all of the events which will give each participants an accurate individual time.”
