Kent,WA – A sellout crowd of 6,150 at ShoWare Center Tuesday night saw the Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Everett Silvertips 2-1 in a shootout.

The game was tied 1-1 after overtime to send the game to a shootout. Colin Jacobs was the first shooter in the shootout for Seattle. Jacobs carried the puck across the blue line and shot the puck through Everett goalie Kent Simpson’s legs to score. Josh Birkholz was the first shooter for Everett and was stopped by Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard.

Burke Gallimore shot second for the T-Birds and was stopped by Simpson with a pad save. Josh Winquist was the Silvertips’ second shooter and was denied by Pickard.

Marcel Noebels was the final shooter for Seattle and was stopped by Simpson. Cody Fowlie, the final shooter for Everett, tried to beat Pickard at the left post but the Seattle goalie got his leg down and stopped the puck to secure the 2-1 victory.

Pickard made 28 saves on 29 shots and is credited with the win increasing his record to 14-14-0-1.

Seattle (14-17-0-1) led Everett in shots on goal 10-9 after a scoreless first period.

Evan Wardley had his first career WHL assist on Seattle’s first goal of the night at 14:34 of the second period. Noebels had the puck at the blue line and was pressured by an Everett defender losing the puck. Wardley took the puck and put a slap shot on net. Wardley’s shot rebounded off Simpson and right to Gallimore in the left circle. Gallimore snapped the puck past a sprawling Simpson for his 15th goal of the season.

The T-Birds led in shots 21-17 after two periods of play.

Everett (6-21-1-6) tied it 1-1 at 7:14 of the third with a goal from Jesse Mychan. Kohl Bauml had the assist.

After three periods, the T-Birds led the Silvertips in shots 30-25.

Simpson stopped 32 of 34 shots bringing his record to 5-16-1-4.

Seattle travels to the Comcast Arena in Everett for the final game of the home-and-home series against the Everett Silvertips on Wednesday, December 28, at 7:05 p.m. The T-Birds return home to the ShoWare Center on Friday, December 30, to play the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:35 p.m.
