Prince George, B.C. — The Cariboo Cougars suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Calgary Northstars at the Mac’s AAA Midget Tournament Friday night which officially eliminates the Cats from the playoff round.

After a scoreless first period, the Northstars broke the deadlock early in the second which was all they needed to win their fourth straight game winning the pool and advancing to the playoffs.

David Readman played a very strong game in net for the Cougars as the entire team played a gritty 60 minutes which saw plenty of end-to-end action. The loss drops the Cougars’ record to 2-2 at the tournament.

Head Coach Trevor Sprague said despite the disappointing loss, the coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort, pride, and determination showed by the entire Cats roster. The impressive performance in all four games has the Cougars believing they are one of the elite midget teams in Canada and look forward to a great BCMML playoff run and hopefully, a trip to the Telus Cup.

“The boys have represented all of their home towns very well, not to mention all of Northern BC and the whole province, and they should hold their heads up high,” said Sprague after the game.

The Cougars will now return home from Calgary and resume their Major Midget League schedule Saturday, January 7th at home to the Valley West Hawks.
