WINNIPEG, Man. – The UBC Okanagan Heat fell 69-40 in their semi-final matchup with Canada West foe the Brandon Bobcats Thursday night as the 2011 Coca Cola continued play at the Duckworth Centre at the University of Winnipeg.

Third year guard Yassine Ghomari (Vancouver, BC)once again led the Heat scoring half of the team’s 40 points, hitting on five of his 10 three point attempts. Fifth year post player Steve Morrison (N. Vancouver, BC) was second on the team with seven points, fellow fifth year post Simon Pelland (N. Vancouver, BC) hauled in a team high nine rebounds.

Fourth year guard Emerick Ravier led the Bobcats with 14 points, including two-three pointers.

Scoring only four points in the first quarter foreshadowed the lack of offense for the Heat for the remaining 30 minutes of the game as UBC Okanagan shot an abysmal 23 percent from the field enroute to tallying only 40 in the game. The Heat never had the lead and trailed the Bobcats by 20 points or more for over 25 minutes of the match.

With the loss UBC Okanagan will face the University of Winnipeg Wesman in the third / fifth game Friday at 2 p.m. PST. With the victory Brandon moves on to the finals Friday at 6 p.m. PST.
