The Raiders have also collaborated with CIBC in the Read to Succeed initiative. Raider players attend elementary schools to read stories to students from kindergarten to grade 3, talk about the importance of literacy, and donate 12 new Brady Brady Hockey storybooks to the participating schools.
In addition to Read to Succeed, the Raiders encourage kids to read with the Read With the Raiders program that takes place at the John M. Cuelenaere Library once a month. Children of all ages are welcome to listen to stories, make crafts and play games with their favourite Raider players.
Raider players attend minor hockey team practices to help run the practice and skate with the players through the Frank Dunn Future Raiders program. In addition, all the kids receive free mini-sticks and tickets for their team to attend a Raider game courtesy of Frank Dunn Toyota.
The green and gold host children from the Eagles Nest Youth Ranch in an opportunity to skate on the Art Hauser Centre Ice with many of the Raiders.
The Raiders also make special visits to the Victoria Hospital to visit with patients in the Herb Basset home and in the paediatric ward.
“We are extremely proud of the dedication the players make to be involved in the community,” said Carrie Georgeson, the Raiders Community Relations Representative. “We take a lot of pride in giving back to the community that supports us.”
