Cara Wooster scored 1:07 into overtime to give the University of Saskatchewan Huskies a 4-3 victory over the visiting University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.

Wooster tallied the game winner on a wrap around from behind the net beating ‘Horns netminder Crystal Patterson stick side.

With the win the Huskies completed the weekend sweep and move to 12-4 on the season. Lethbridge drops to 10-6. A night earlier, the Huskies won 5-3. After entering the weekend tied with Lethbridge, the Huskies now have sole possession of first place in the Canada West standings.

Saskatchewan had a 3-0 lead entering the third period before Lethbridge scored three goals in the final frame to force the 10-minute sudden death overtime. The Pronghorns closed the gap on two Erica Williams’ goals in a 1:36 span. She netted her first at 4:34 on the power play and added her second at 6:10.

Sadie Lenstra provided the last second heroics for the Pronghorns sliding the puck through Huskie goaltender Mackenzie Rizos with just 19 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime.

Huskie Kelsey Tulloch opened at 4:53 in the first period. Canada West leading scorer Julie Paetsch gave the Huskies a two goal lead just 1:28 into the second period with a power play goal. On a turnover by Lethbridge in the neutral zone, Sara White potted the Huskies’ third goal at 14:19.

Rizos made 25 saves in the win, while Patterson stopped 29 at the other end of the ice. Lethbridge was 1-for-4 with the man advantage, while Saskatchewan went 1-for3.

The Huskies travel to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas next weekend, while Lethbridge faces the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series.
