The Victoria Cougars have acquired forward Colin Minardi from the Summerland Steam of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Minardi, a 20-year-old from Summerland, had 15 goals and 28 assists in 37 games for the Steam this season.

We are very pleased with the acquisition of Colin, Cougars’ assistant coach Thomas Kala said. We feel like we have added a huge asset to our team. Colin will enhance our leadership, character, and provide us with another offensive threat.

Minardi was in his first season with Summerland after spending the last three years with the North Okanagan Knights and Grand Forks Border Bruins.

In 150 K.I.J.H.L. regular season and playoff games, Minardi posted 51 goals and 76 assists for 127 points.

According to Kala, Summerland found it difficult to part ways with its captain but at the same time wanted to provide Minardi the opportunity to join a playoff bound team.

I can’t say enough about the Summerland organization. They were a pleasure to deal with and it was a classy move on their part to provide Colin this opportunity, Kala said.

Minardi will be in tomorrow’s lineup versus the Peninsula Panthers.
