Everett Silvertips

SPOKANE, WA – Bad bounces plagued the Everett Silvertips in a 6-1 loss to the Spokane Chiefs Wednesday night at Spokane Arena. After their second head-to-head game this week, the teams will now return to Everett to complete their set of three games in six days Friday night at Comcast Arena.

Brennan Yadlowski scored for the Silvertips, who stood within 2-1 late in the first period before Spokane scored the game’s last four goals. Chiefs’ netminder Mac Engel made a number of tough saves on Everett scoring chances among his 23 stops on the night. The ‘Tips were outshot 36-24 in total.

Spokane grabbed the early lead when Mitch Holmberg and Mike Aviani scored goals less than two minutes apart to put the ‘Tips in a 2-0 hole. Everett battled back on the powerplay when Josh Winquist spun away from a defender in the corner and centered a pass to Brennan Yadlowski, who beat Mac Engel glove side to narrow the deficit to one. Just when it appeared the Silvertips would carry momentum into the locker room however, Blake Gal buried a quick feed from Brendan Kichton with only 57 seconds left in the period to put Spokane up 3-1.

Darren Kramer extended the Chiefs’ advantage to 4-1 with a breakaway goal at 3:24 of the second period. Everett created some quality chances in the period, but Engel held them at bay to maintain the lead. Engel first stopped Trent Lofthouse on the doorstep after a great play by Ryan Murray and then stoned Kohl Bauml’s chance in front off a Ryan Harrison feed. Before the period was out, Liam Stewart stole a puck in the Everett zone and converted on his third chance at the net after two solid Kent Simpson saves. Brendan Kichton added one more tally early in the third period to complete a 6-1 win for the Chiefs.

Kent Simpson (6-21-1-5) finished the night with 30 saves, while Mac Engel (17-11-1-2) had 23. The ‘Tips scored on 1 of 3 powerplays and held the Chiefs scoreless on three chances.
