Brandon Wheat Kings

Brandon, MB. — The Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that a special pre-game ceremony is being planned for Friday night to recognize the two members of the Western Hockey League club that recently returned from participating in the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championships in Alberta.

While veteran Mark Stone and Swiss import Alessio Bertaggia were in the Brandon lineup for Wednesday’s game against Saskatoon, Friday’s game will give western Manitoba hockey fans an excellent opportunity to show their appreciation for the two during a special on ice presentation.

Not only did Stone help Team Canada to a bronze medal, he led the team in scoring with seven goals and 10 points. Bertaggia meanwhile was a valuable member of the Swiss U20 National Team and finished the event with a goal and a team high three assists.

For Stone, who currently leads the Wheat Kings in scoring this season with 27 goals and 68 points, the World Junior experience was unbelievable.

“It’s bittersweet, but we’re still excited to win our last game and we’re never going to forget these experiences,” the popular Brandon captain recently told Rob Henderson of the Brandon Sun. “I made 21 new friends and a bunch of friends through the coaching staff and management. There’s so many great people at Hockey Canada and so many great guys around Canada play hockey. I have no regrets about this experience. There’s so many things I’m going to take away from it.”

In addition to Friday’s on ice ceremony, Stone is scheduled to be at Murrays Chev Cadillac Ltd. Thursday night and western Manitoba hockey fans are encouraged to come out and meet the popular Wheat King captain. The Winnipeg native will be signing autographs and showing off his bronze medal from 5-7pm at the new Murrays showroom located on Richmond Avenue.
