The Camosun College Chargers basketball teams returned to the hardwood tonight to kick-off the second half of the PACWEST season against the Capilano University Blues from North Vancouver. While Friday the 13th was an unlucky night for the Chargers women, Camosun’s men’s squad upset the country’s No. 2 team, handing them the Blues their second loss of the season.

The Chargers women played a great first half against the defending PACWEST Champion Blues ending the second quarter tied at 31-all. The Blues picked up the pace in the second half, however, outscoring the home team by 14 points (76-52) and providing Camosun with their fourth loss out of seven games played.

Second-year wing/post Rosie Bergen (Kelowna) led the Chargers in points with 13. Fourth-year wing Caitlin Marshall (St. Albert, AB) was close behind with 12. Capilano’s Jenna Ralston led the winning team with 26 points and 7 rebounds.

The Chargers men had their work cut out for them tonight going up against the PACWEST’s top team (nationally ranked No. 2), but nothing could stop the home team this evening and they outscored and outworked their opponents in every quarter pulling off the upset 91-63.

First-year forward Trevor Scheurmann (Winnipeg) led the Chargers to victory with 24 points and 5 rebounds while teammate James Blandford (first-year forward) posted 20 points and 6 rebounds.

PACWEST action continues tomorrow as the Chargers tip-off against the Quest University Kermodes from Squamish. Women 1pm; Men 3pm at PISE.
