University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ Athletic Director Basil Hughton and PotashCorp Vice-President of Investor and Public Relations, Denita Stann are pleased to announce another gift of $150,000 from PotashCorp to Huskie Athletics.

The donation will be made official Saturday, January 14. Bill Johnson, PotashCorp’s Sr Dir Public Affairs will present the cheque to Hughton at Huskie volleyball at 7:45 p.m. at the PAC. Rhonda Speiss, PotashCorp’s Manager Corporate Philanthropy will be at Huskie hockey at Credit Union Centre at 2 p.m. to also present the cheque to Huskies’ Marketing and Development Director Michael Jenkins.

Each of the Huskie Athletics 15 Canadian Interuniversity Sport teams will benefit from the gift. The funds will also help supplement Huskie Athletics team budgets, as well as allow for support of student-athletes in the Huskies Sport Health Centre. It is the second straight year PotashCorp has donated the funds to Huskie Athletics.

“Huskie Athletics is very grateful once again for this contribution from PotashCorp,” said Hughton. “The generosity shown over the last two years has truly been tremendous and appreciated. Each season the costs associated with running elite CIS teams, like those we have at the University of Saskatchewan, rises. Contributions such as these from local corporations help our programs recruit and retain the best and brightest student-athletes. Our accomplishments in sport, in the classroom and in the community could not happen without PotashCorp’s support.”

PotashCorp believes supporting local student-athletes has helped build a strong community.

“We are proud to support our hometown Huskies and athletic programming at the U of S,” said Denita Stann, Vice-President of Investor and Public Relations at PotashCorp. “Athletic programs teach important lessons, outside the classroom, about leadership, discipline, and teamwork – the same values that drive our company and our success everyday.”

PotashCorp has donated more than $11-million dollars to the University of Saskatchewan. In 1998 the company donated $5 million to create the PotashCorp Centre at the Edwards School of Business. PotashCorp gave another $5 million to the University in 2005 for upgrades to Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park to help Huskie Athletics host the 2006 Vanier Cup.
