Chargers sweep the weekend!

In Saturdays’s PACWEST basketball action, the hosting Camosun College Chargers cleaned up the weekend with two more wins, this time over the Columbia Bible College Bearcats.

 

The Chargers women virtually walked away with today’s game defeating the Bearcats by over 50 points. Camosun dominated in every frame beginning with a nine-point lead in the first quarter that grew to 24 pts at the end of the half. Camosun widened the gap further by the close of the third, outscoring their opponents 31-9! The Chargers ended the contest 93-40 and head into their final three weekends of league competition with a record of 6-6. Today’s win against CBC, combined with last night’s 60-48 victory over Douglas College gives the Camosun women their first sweep of the season on home ground.

Second-year wing/point Aija Salvador (Oak Bay) had another outstanding game with 23 points and 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Camosun newcomer Ella Goldschmid made a great appearance with 22 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

It was a slow start for the Chargers men who began today’s game trailing the Bearcats by one at the end of the first quarter. Camosun began to pull ahead in the second and secured a 45-41 lead thanks to Drake Downer’s three posted in the last 10 seconds of the first half. Camosun poured it on in the third outscoring CBC by 14 points and taking a solid 18 point lead. The Bearcats did not go down easily however and met the Chargers in the triple digits posting 34 points to the home team’s 38 in the final frame. This weekend’s sweep advances the Chargers men to 9-3.

First-year forward Trevor Scheurmann led the Chargers to today’s win with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Second-year point guard Jordan Elvedahl was close behind with 23 points and 7 assists.

The Chargers basketball teams hit the road next Saturday to tip-off against Island rivals, the VIU Mariners. Following this weekend’s bye, the Chargers volleyball teams make a return to PACWEST action with a pair of matches against the Douglas College Royals in New Westminster.
