With 77-47 win over the Brandon University Bobcats, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies extended their win streak to six games Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
The Huskies, who have five games remaining, improve to 11-4 on the season and continue to sit on the heels of the Alberta Pandas in the Canada West Prairie Divisions standings for a home playoff date. Brandon remains winless at 0-16.
Although Saskatchewan jumped out to a 7-0 start to the game, Brandon battled hard to stay with the No. 4 ranked team in the country and had the game within five with just over three minutes left in the first frame. They were able to keep the game within five to end the frame at 16-11.
Brandon went on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter to bring the game within one point and tied it on a foul shot by Kaela Cranston. But the Huskies answered with two three-pointers in a row from Kabree Howard and Mary Hipperson from the left side of the arc to take a six-point lead. From there, the Huskies went on a 17-4 run to take a 35-22 lead into halftime.
It was all Saskatchewan for the rest of the game outscoring the Bobcats 22-11 in the third quarter and 20-14 in the fourth.
Rookie post Dalyce Emmerson once again made a big impact recording her ninth double double of the season hitting 7-of-12 shots for 15 points and nabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. Hipperson equaled Emmerson with another 15 points for the Huskies. Howard chipped in another 11 and rookie guard Kelsey Trulsrud added another 10.
Aimee Johnston led the Bobcats with 13 points and nine rebounds. Chantel Gaslard added to the Bobcats scoring with another 11 points.
The Huskies hit the road to face the University of Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend, while Brandon returns home to host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
