The second race in the Frontrunners Island Race Series – the Cedar 12K – takes place on Sunday, February 5 at 11 am. The race starts and finishes at Cedar Junior Secondary School, 2215 Gould Road, Nanaimo. The 12K is hosted by the Bastion Running Club, Nanaimo.
Runners can register online until midnight, Wednesday February 1 at www.vira.bc.ca or on race day. Race registration until February 1 is $25 for adults and $20 for students. Race day fees are $35 and $30 for students.
It has also been announced that Cobble Hill 10K that was cancelled on January 22, due to weather and road conditions, will be re-scheduled for February 26.
“The snow is gone and now is the time to look towards goal events in the spring. We are all motivated by different things to help us get out the door to go for a jog or a serious training run,” said Cathy Noel, President of the Vancouver Island Runners’ Association (VIRA). “The Frontrunners Island Series has built up a “community” and family of participants, but they are always willing to adopt new runners. You will be missed if you aren’t there – hope to see you at the start line in Cedar!”
The Prairie Inn Harriers, Victoria lead the series club standings with 897 points, followed by Comox Valley Road Runners with 282 and Frontrunners Athletic Club with 252.
Eight races make up the Frontrunners Island Race Series. Cedar 12K will be followed by Hatley Castle 8K on February 19, Cobble Hill 10K on February 26, Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K on March 4, Comox Valley RV Half Marathon on March 18, Merville 15K on April 1, and Sooke River 10K on April 15. Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K and the Comox Valley RV Half Marathon are also part of the Timex BC Series. All races are sanctioned by BC Athletics.
