Brandon Wheat Kings
Brandon, Manitoba – Tip Top Tailors, in conjunction with the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that their Player of the Month winner for January is 17-year old sophomore defenceman Ryan Pulock.
A seventh round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2009 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, the Grandview, Manitoba product had three goals and 8 points and finished second in plus / minus with a +6 in fourteen games last month.
In 51 games for the Wheat Kings this season, the former Parkland AAA Midget Ranger has twelve goals, 45 points and is currently second on the team with an impressive plus / minus rating of +22. He is currently third in WHL scoring among blueliners – seven points behind Spokane’s Brenden Kichton and just one back of Joseph Morrow of the Portland Winterhawks.
His 45 points are three better than his rookie season in 2010-11 when he established a new franchise record for 16-year old defenceman, breaking the previous record set by Wade Redden (39) in 1993-94.
Since joining the Wheat Kings in the fall of 2010, Pulock has scored 87 points, including 20 goals in 114 regular season games.
Pulock becomes the fourth Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month winner for the 2011-12 campaign, joining captain Mark Stone, 17-year old defenceman Eric Roy and former Saskatoon Blades forward Darian Dziurzynski.
In recognition of the monthly honour, he will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings, during this Friday’s game against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes at Westman Communications Group Place.
The Wheat Kings enter the weekend with a record of 25-24-1-2, good for 53 points and are currently sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. Brandon will be hoping to snap a 5-game home ice losing streak when they face the ‘Canes on Friday.
