The University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s volleyballl team is proud to announce Kassia Felske as the newest addition to the program.

Felske has made her commitment to play with the Huskies beginning in the 2012-13. The middle blocker, from Prince Albert’s Carlton High School, will join former teammate Kayla Tycholiz on the Huskies squad.

“Kassia is a terrific addition for the 2012-13 Huskies,” said head coach Jason Grieve. “She is a mature young person with many coachable attributes. I am excited to add a young middle blocker to the Huskies who displays great promise. Kassia will fit in well, both academically and athletically, at the UofS.”

Felske, a starting middle blocker for the Optimist Toppers Volleyball Club, is coached by Chantelle Lamotte. In 2011, she played up an age category and helped the Optimist Toppers 18U club team earn a silver medal at SVA’s Provincial Championships.

Felske has strong ties to the University of Saskatchewan. Her father, Owen, donned the Huskies’ jersey for the men’s hockey team as a goalie from 1982 to 1985 and her siblings Keltie and Korbin are both current University of Saskatchewan students.

“I am super excited to be apart of the U of S Huskies and to have Jason as my coach,” said Felske. “Growing with the Huskies on the court and developing friendships off the court with my new teammates is what I’m mostly looking forward too next fall. I can’t wait to be back on the court practicing with my old teammate Kayla Tycholiz, it’s always comforting to have a familiar face, especially when we’ve played together for over five years. I’m also glad to follow in my father’s footsteps by being a Huskie athlete. I think the Huskies are a great team and I can’t wait for my volleyball career to begin with them!”

Felske will be in the stands and introduced to fans between the second and third sets on Friday night at the Huskies game.

The Huskies will face the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday and Saturday. Match time is 6 p.m. each night at the PAC.
