The No. 7 nationally ranked University of Victoria Vikes improved their chances of hosting a home quarter-final series in the Canada West playoffs with a dominating defensive performance in a 68-39 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday night in Kelowna, B.C.
With the victory, the Vikes improve to 13-3 on the season with two games remaining – both against the No. 3 nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds in a home-and-home series Feb. 10 at the War Memorial Gymnamsium in Vancouver and Feb. 17 at McKinnon Gymnasium in Victoria.
On Saturday night, Ryan MacKinnon of Comox, B.C., led the Vikes again with 19 points while Michael Acheampong of Toronto added 18 and Terrell Evans of Las Vegas 10 points.
Simon Pelland led the host Heat with 16 points.
