NHL Coaching Ace Tom Renney to Speak with Olympic and Paralympic Technical Sport Leaders at OTP Excellence Program in Ottawa

OTTAWA—Edmonton Oiler head coach Tom Renney will provide insight to nearly 60 of Canada’s coaches and high-performance directors on how to build a culture of excellence in your high-performance program while delivering a keynote address as part of Own the Podium’s ProfessionalDevelopment Breakfast Series made possible through the financial support of the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport.

Renney, who was the head coach of Canada’s silver-medal winning men’s Olympic Hockey Team at the 1994 Games, will guide many of the nation’s top sport technical leaders invited to the event on his positive experiences in leading the 1994 Canadian Team to the podium, while also sharing key steps in the current rebuild of the EdmontonOilers. The breakfast takes place in the Canada Room at Ottawa’s RA Centre on February 10 at 8:30 a.m. EST.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to participating in healthy dialogue with many of Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic coaches and high-performance directors while sharing a variety of international experiences that we have been a part of,” said Renney. “In our discussions, I hope to convey the importance and value of positive synergy built on a culture of shared living values.

Own the Podium created the Professional Development Breakfast Series in conjunction with its Coaching and Technical Leadership Excellence Program in an ongoing effort to help fully prepare Canada’s athletes and coaches for success at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012, Sochi 2014 and beyond. Plans are underway to expand the program next year in cooperation with Canadian Sport Centres across the country.
