Megan Woodland of Victoria finished in a tie for fifth place as the University of Victoria Vikes women’s golf team placed fourth at their first tournament of 2012, the Super San Diego Championship hosted by Point Loma Nazarene, Feb. 6-7, in San Diego.
Woodland was terrific on the opening day shooting a score of 79 despite difficult greens. On Day 2, Woodland shot a team-best score of 82 and was the top Vikes finisher with a 17-over-par score of 161.
The Vikes finished fourth overall in the 19-team field. Laura Howard of Cal Poly won the tournament with a 12-over-par score of 156 (81-75–156), defeating teammate Asia Adell in a playoff, five shots ahead of Woodland.
Other UVic players in competition were Brynn Tomie (T-20, +23), Pamela Desmarais (T-24, 24+), Victoria Kondrak (T-39, 26+) and Cari Chow (T-75, 42+)
UVic was in second place after the first round.
